Sol-U-Guard Botanical Disinfectant is one of the many cleaning products offered by the Melaleuca Company. Melaleuca hails it as the first botanical disinfectant. But is it as good as other competing brands? Sol-U-Guard comes in a sixteen fluid ounce spray bottle. It commands a price of $7.69. This can be considered expensive compared to others brands.
This is the first botanical disinfectant to be approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. It is non-caustic and contains no harsh chemicals. Its main active ingredients are citric acid and thyme oil. It claims to kill ninety-nine percent of all common household germs including the HIV virus, the athlete’s foot fungus, staph bacteria and mycobacterium bovis, otherwise known as the bacterium that causes tuberculosis.
The smell is very distinct and aromatic. It is like an earthy citrus odor. You can definitely smell the natural ingredients contained in the solution. When you use it the smell hangs in the air for quite awhile. It leaves your house smelling clean and fresh minus the harsh chemical scent. I use Sol-U-Guard everywhere in my house. I use it especially in my children’s rooms and around my guinea pig cages. It is safe to use around animals and children because it does not contain harsh chemicals. This is a big selling point for me. The less poisons I have in my home, the happier I am.
All you do is spray it on non-porous surfaces. Then leave it set for ten minutes. Then come back through and wipe the surfaces down. Yes I know it is more work to do but this is how I prefer to clean. Melaleuca however does recommend you do not use it on marble and stone surfaces.
I really do enjoy using this product because it is natural and works well. It is better for the environment and better for my family. But it can be pricey. The only way you can purchase this product is signing up for the Melaleuca home business program. So I usually buy it from a close friend.
